CHRONIC PAIN THEMATIC COMMENTARY...
Pain! An in-depth thought that engulfs us all at some time or the other in our respective private lives,
concealment may be our game, some temporary pain, other pain more severe, so it grips us like a
languishing fungus feeding upon our Nero-system. It consumes our Neuro/muscular/sketal systems
as some wolf howling in the darkness, all part of the score. It gnawed at every tidbit of our physiology.
Most people have difficulty coping with minimal pain much less the chronic effects. In conjunction with
chronic pain, there can be regular pain, growing pain, referred pain, phantom limb pain, and emotional
pain but none as severe as the chronic pings; a severe sensation of physical discomfort associated
with mental sufferings (afflictions, anguish, distress, hurt, misery, torment, woe, wound, and
wretchedness, or just plain depression) all occurring as the result of disease or traumatic injuries over
an extended period of time, which in aches, pang, prick, prickle, smart, soreness, stab, sting, stitch,
throe, twinges, or burning pain.
No one is more aware of the detrimental side affects from chronic pain then the artist Latta, himself,
other than similar patients, simply because they have not lived the experience beyond simple pain.
The AMA practitioners seem to misunderstand the detrimental ramifications since they never took
the field trip to experience its joy.
Since June of 1985 to the present date, I have lived to the present in this chronic dark pain terror
of fibromyalgia with multiple symtomologies, Facet Joint Syndrome of the spine, arthritis of the
lumbar locale, and spondeloylosis in the cervical and lumbar locales with some congenital
deformities, all hampering my physical functions with limitations. Chronic pain generates depression
to the extent it becomes your best friend. Therefore, everything becomes stressful except my art world.
Physically and mentally denied access to my artwork until October of 2005, when I broke through all
of these aforementioned dysfunctions, weaning myself from those "el-dopa" medications with the
steroidal injections enough to recapture my art, therefore, hoping some day I could render some
dry media drawings reflecting upon "chronic pain" . So now the opportunity has presented itself in
Drawing I. So here it is, my song, my very own aesthetical thematic statement dealing with "chronic pain".
These six art pieces are non-representational portraitures, anatomical proportions are
negotiable, and the hat with the gestured ink clothing are ladened with symbolism.
